Myself (Daniel), Adam and Tom are 3 Croydon boys with big dreams and a love for good food and drinks. This is the basis to which we decided to set up Brgr&Beer.

Just under a year ago myself and Tom were walking home after a day of a few drinks and we started having that all too familiar drunken conversation about opening a burger joint/bar. Even in our inebriated state it made a lot of sense that Croydon needed a place like Brgr&Beer. At the end of the conversation we agreed that it would not be just another drunken conversation of big dreams that inevitably comes to nothing, and that we should go with it.

The next morning the first thing I did was to ring Tom and say “let’s make this happen”. We announced the plan to our mates and Adam was on board straight away. And now here we are, realising a dream to run our own business, serving great burgers and craft beers to the masses of Croydon.

We came up with the concept, the menu, the name and branding, everything started out as a lot of fun. Then came the not so fun part, looking for a location. Prime spots were being snapped up before we could sniff them and when we did find a location it dawned on us just how much it costs to open a restaurant, and maybe we were biting off more than we could chew. At that stage the idea was about to fold. Our last throw of the dice was contacting Matthews Yard hoping they would let us run their kitchen. What materialised was us having a concession within Matthews Yard and becoming investors in the process. Matthews Yard is a cultural, arts and community hub in the heart of Croydon just off the iconic Surrey Street Market. They have given us the opportunity to start a business and are currently incubating other exciting start ups and given us all a platform to grow.

As for Brgr&Beer we believe in high quality at an affordable price. Everything that comes out of our kitchen is made by us. The fries made fresh, the beef patties are pure dry aged beef, no egg, no breadcrumbs, no onion, just meat. Our fruit and veg comes right from our doorstep from the market traders of Surrey Street. The day we compromise in quality will be the day we move on to other things.

As for the beers we offer a range of international beers and London craft beers such a Kernel, London Fields, By The Horns and Croydon favourite Clarence & Fredericks. All beers that go on our rotating beer list are on there on merit and because we like them.

We are mad excited about the future and giving the people of Croydon the best burgers and beers in town.
