Sikh Talk: Railway Strikes – The Case for Re-Nationalisation

With the recent strikes on the railways taking over, it’s important to understand why the privitisation of our railways have failed us and will continue to do so as a society for both workers and consumers.
In this video, I present the case for re-nationalising our railways on the grounds of three simple, reasonable and rational arguments. First, I discuss the flawed notion and application of competition on railways and argue it’s the leading cause in the increase of railway fares. Secondly, I move on to discuss the absence of a democratic framework in a privatized industry, leading to the fact that this removes any democratic accountability of the service. Finally, I conclude with the thinking that these price increases are indiscriminately applied, which means the economic nature of the service users is not considered and this flat rate imposed on the public becomes no different to the idea of a regressive tax.
I hope you like the video, and I apologize for the inconsistent sound quality. I will be investing in a portable microphone soon.
