Because we recorded the show at the end of July, I had completely forgotten what we had played on the show. Now, I’m not gonna lie, but for me personally this has been our best show to date. I don’t even know where to start. When you look at the tracklist, you think, WTF!
Well we started off with an Amy Winehouse tune each. I played the first and Dan the second. Then we went back to back, playing two tunes each and ending with one each. Dan with the last tune. It made sense for us to start with Amy. We are both huge fans. It’s without doubt she was probably the best female singer of our generation. I never really paid too much attention to all that tabloid shit. All I knew was that she made two amazing albums. What do you expect when she sings openly about her heart break and lays her soul bare. However she did make those upbeat tunes as well (Valerie & Monkey Man). We didn’t really know what to play, so we just started with a tune that we both liked and deserved some airplay. RIP Amy. The music will live forever.
As for the rest of the show, every tune is on point. Watch out for new music from Thundercat and Ossie at the beginning. Get’s kinda raunchy with Wet Wet by Waka Flocka and Play by David Banner. Just have a listen and you will realise. After this we get filthy with some playful and bass heavy bangers for your soundsystem, with tunes from The Cool Kids, Kreayshawn and Africa Hi-tech. The Kreayshawn tune may have some hype around it, but at least it baits out those bait girls. You know what I’m saying (Leave it out Jessie J, stop begging it). Check out the lyrics, I’m sure you all know what she’s chatting about. Girls with creps, yes please.
We go on an indie diversion with Foster The People, Little Dragon and Caribou. Dan takes it into a more uplifting electronic feel with Bashmore’s remix of Mosca. It only made sense to bring Moodymann into the show at this point. Any of you that have ever heard his voice, will probably love track 23 (the man can swear without sounding aggressive, ‘oh yeahhhhh’). This blending with the Gotan Project straight from Italy (found on XL Recordings). If the sun is out and you’re jamming/chillaxing with a drink, this one is for you. Dan pulled it out of the bag with Tensnake and Falty DL. Something About You by Tensnake. How bloody 80s/90s does that tune sound (that epic piano build-up). Jezzzzz. Start throwing shapes in your mates face. The usual Whatever madness continues till the end. Make sure you check the last two for steel drums and South American vibes.
Thanks to anyone that made the effort to read all that. We both appreciate all the people downloading the shows and taking time to listen. Thanks. Next one is Glastonbury special. It’s all recorded, next week it should be online.
